Simon Galapo, M.D., L.Ac.

Dr. Simon Galapo has been a licensed medical doctor specializing in pain management since 2003.

Dr. Galapo grew up in New York, receiving his Bachelor of Science from Queens College in Queens, New York. He received his Doctor of Medicine from SUNY Downstate Medical School in 1998. He completed his residency in anesthesiology at Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. After finding his passion in pain medicine, Dr. Galapo underwent a fellowship in pain medicine at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Galapo spent his first year as an attending as both a clinician and instructor teaching pain management to the medical students, residents, and fellows at the University of Pennsylvania. This allowed Dr. Galapo to get a first-hand look at how important it was for there to be quality and cutting edge pain management expertise in the surrounding Philadelphia region. In 2004, Dr. Galapo founded Independence Pain Associates at Redeemer Health (formerly Holy Redeemer) where he has been treating chronic pain conditions and covering acute pain at Redeemer Health ever since.

Dr. Galapo is a diplomat of the American Board of Anesthesiology and is dual certified in both anesthesiology and pain medicine. He is also certified by the state of Pennsylvania as a licensed acupuncturist.

Dr. Galapo’s primary goal is to give his patients a greater understanding of their diagnoses and treatment options, by creating a personalized care plan for each patient. This allows the patient and their loved ones to play an active role in their treatment course, which will lead to better long-term results. In creating this plan for his patients, Dr. Galapo places an emphasis on first understanding the priorities and concerns of the patient and their loved ones, and tailoring the plan based on their inputs, in order to maximize the patient’s quality of life.

Dr. Galapo enjoys his spare time by spending time with his beautiful family and friends. He also enjoys the outdoors and taking long hikes in nature.
